GirlSTEM Saturdays 2021
IslandWISE GirlSTEM Saturday 2021 (Online) was a huge success. The participants were introduced to a wide variety of scientific principles, and were able to learn experientally through kits we provided prior to the virtual event. All of the activities - from checking pH levels to studying the chemical structure of tea - were extremely enlightening.
The participants loved designing marshmallow molecules and at some point, eating them too! They were irresistible!! Our hardworking participants also strapped on engineering caps and were given the challenge to build bridges out of sugar cubes. There were some impressive creations!

Duaa, an Engineer in Training with Nova Scotia Power, motivated students to follow their dreams and be bold trailblazers for women in STEM. The presentation from D’Andre from BrainStemAlliance was insightful, showcasing the history of women in STEM. Everyone learned so much and felt inspired by so many stories of resilience, perseverance and success!

Thank you, Loree for hosting the event. A massive shout out to all the presenters, facilitators, volunteers and sponsors who gave life to this event. Thank you, Nova Scotia Power, Marine Atlantic, BrainSTEMAlliance, Cape Breton University, NSERC, for supporting us.

Best wishes to our little heroes (participants) for demonstrating their ability to remain actively engaged and their resilience and openness to invite inquiry into Science and Technology. We are extremely proud of everyone involved in GirlSTEM Saturdays.

"Loree, I must commend you and your team for an awesome program.

My daughter and I enjoyed it so much - yes, I sat through all 6 hours with her and really enjoyed learning so much.

Most importantly, I am raising a bright, competent, strong, young lady and this program enforced the strong, accomplished women theme.
Thanks again for a great program."

"I think it is so wonderful to be able to help guide young women within different STEM fields. Especially ones that are traditionally male-dominated fields. It has been so nice working and learning with everyone.

Thanks again, Loree, for all your effort in getting everything organized. It was such a good experience and I look forward to the next one."
